Photo Point 09-12-08, Flinders Ranges

It’s been a long time between drinks! This photo point was taken after we received 40 points of rain on Tuesday.  We also received 20mls of rain the weekend before however we were away so couldn’t show you any photos of the creek flooding in front of the rain gauge! If you look carefully though, [...]

Floods in the Flinders - a timely warning

A couple of weeks ago we received 20mls of rain which caused some of our bigger creeks to run. At the same time a group of School students and teachers from Victoria were driving along Glass Gorge Road. They approached the Oratunga Creek while it was near it’s peak and instead of applying caution one [...]

Mystery Photo - can you help?

We found this photograph in the old Homestead of Moolooloo. We know that is not a photograph taken here and have asked many people if they know where the photo was taken and unfortunately no one knows!
On the back of the photograph is the following information:
Mrs R J Marleson (or Matheson), 43 Austral Tce., Malvern [...]

Christine Harris, local Children’s Author of well know titles “Audrey of the Outback” and “Spy Girl” series recently did a little write up about Millie and Henry on her Audrey of the Outback Blog. Follow the link above to see the post…
Millie and Henry were ever so impressed, [...]

Aboriginal Carvings at Moolooloo, Flinders Ranges

Adnyamathanha (pronounced Adna-mutna) people have lived in the Northen Flinders Ranges for around 40,000 years. Aboriginal Carvings have been found at Third Water Spring and Ochre paintings have also been found on Moolooloo by a bushwalker in an unknown location.
Third Water Spring is also home to the odd yabbie in good seasons and is a [...]

1st Blackwood Scout Group visit Moolooloo, October 2008.

We had the pleasure of having some members of the 1st Blackwood Scout Group camp at Third Water in October.  This year a smaller group, made up of Scout member families, made the trek after being part of the larger contingent last year.  Trish sent us in some fantastic photos which we thought we’d like [...]

Here are some photos of the kids riding in the Monte Carlo event at the Blinman Races on the weekend.  This is always a very popular event with the kids and the great part is you don’t even need your own horse to compete! Thanks to some very kind horse owners who are happy to [...]

Photo Point 22-09-08 - Dust storm in the Flinders Ranges

Today is just awful, I thought I’d take some pictures so you can get an idea of how revolting it really is! As I’m writing this I’ve noticed the sky has turned red. Much worse than in these pictures. It looks like a scene from Mars and is quite eery!
I think I’ll put my washing [...]

Dust Storm in the Flinders Ranges

After a blustery Grand Final weekend we drove home yesterday. I had been asleep for about 20 minutes (exhausted after celebrating our GF win!) and woke to an awful screeching noise. It was interference on the radio caused by a dust storm!  This picture is taken looking East as we turned onto the Blinman Road [...]

Photo Point 9-09-08, Flinders Ranges

After receiving 50 points of rain a couple of weekends ago, followed by beautiful warm sunny weather, Moolooloo is beginning to green up at long last!  Great timing for school holidays…

Welcome to ‘Lucky’ the dog!
We found Lucky on the Pet Rescue web site. What a fantastic resource this is!
Lucky was at the Pound when staff at the Whyalla Vet clinic saved him before he was to be put down. They cared for him, gave him a health check, de-sexed him, wormed him, micro chipped him [...]

Quandongs ~ Santalum Acuminatum ~ Native Wild Peach

Our Quandongs are just beginning to ripen and the trees are quite loaded with fruit. We don’t harvest the fruit until it falls to the ground, we then cut the flesh from the seed (which is quite time consuming). Once pitted we lay the fruit on trays in the sun to dry.
If you’ve [...]

Crutching at Moorillah is nearly finished...

We thought you might like to see some pictures of crutching this year! Above are Tige, Corky, Chris and Pud hard at work in the woolshed at Moorillah!
And below are some lambs post ‘crutching’ - very cute!
You’ll notice in the background some heavy cloud. Yesterday was a very cold day with a few light [...]
