My husband and I were privileged to stay at Nuccaleena Cottage in August last year. Little did we know that our belated anniversary trip away would prove to be life changing.

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and were immediately impressed. The cottage was beautiful, tastefully decorated, extremely comfortable and very welcoming. As we were yet to discover this would prove to be much like the people of Orroroo. We felt completely at home, both at the cottage and also when we visited the local cafe and shops. Even though we were some distance from Adelaide we both experienced a sense that we had come home, although neither of us had ever lived in the country before. We found everything (and everyone we met) exceeded our expectations and by Saturday we realised that we wanted to make our home in Orroroo.

Although we were sad to leave Nuccaleena Cottage on the Sunday, we were able to write of our glowing findings and our plans in their Guest Book and returned to Adelaide to break the news to our teenage son who had not travelled with us. He (like the rest our families) took the news in his stride and to cut a very long story short we bought a lovely old stone home of our own in Orroroo five weeks later.

I am delighted to able to say that we have been living here now for seven months and do not regret our sudden change in direction at all. My husband and I both started work within two weeks of arriving here and our son has settled well into school.

Don’t get the wrong idea of me, I am definitely not the sort of person who is impulsive and would never have expected a weekend at a bed and breakfast cottage would turn out like it has, but I know with all my heart that this is were we belong and I am so pleased that my weekend turned into the “ranges changes” that it has.

Our sincerest thanks go to Lisa and Keith for being the first wonderful link in a chain that brought us out of the rat race and into a world were people really care about one another and their town.
