Flinders Ranges B&B Accommodation, SA
We have had a few spots of rain here today and as my husband is an ‘ideas man’ preoccupied with rain (as all good pastoralists and those in the rural industry are) he has suggested we have a section on our blog dedicated to showing those of you out there what our landscape looks like each month via a photo point (aka the top of the rain gauge looking North East towards Hannigan’s Gap). Quite clever really! Here is the first one.
Last year was a particularly bad year rainfall wise and a couple of weeks ago we received about 37mm spread over a few days. You should be able to just see a little feed ‘post’ germination! Fingers crossed next month we will have alot more happening on the rain gauge photo point!
Stay 2 nights in June and receive the 3rd half price!
Minimum 3 night stay, special valid for June 2008 only.
Please remember to mention our NEW website or weblog when booking!
From an email i received last week…thought you might enjoy it!
Henry is famous. He tipped more winners in the ABC Radio footy pools than the resident guru footy tipper. Congratulations, Henry.

I have visited here on holidays nearly every year and some years more frequently than just once for over 24 years. The accomodation is lovely, the area is beautiful particularly if you are lucky enough to see it rain and the people are great.
This is the kids all time favourite!
Ingredients:
Method:
Heat oven to 180 degrees C. Put flour, sugar, cocoa, salt, egg, melted butter and milk in a medium sized bowl and beat with wooden spoon (or i find a whisk is ex) until the mixture is smooth (around a minute). Add vanilla, mix in well. Place mixture into a greased oven proof dish. Make a mixture of an extra 3/4 cup of sugar and 1& 1/2 Tbsp of cocoa. Sprinkle over your mixture in dish evenly. Pour 1 & 3/4 of a cup of boiling water onto the sugar and cocoa mixture (it helps to pour water over a spoon onto the dish to even the water out over the pudding). Bake in oven for 40 minutes.
Serve with cream and ice cream!!!
Fergus adopted our family a few years ago and has been in charge of Moolooloo Station ever since!
He was a stray that needed a family to look after. He was wild when he first arrived but with a little food & TLC he has proven to be quite a character! He meets and greets our guests at the Station, but careful – too much petting is not recommended, he still has a bit of the ‘wild’ in him. He follows the children (as family protector) on all their jaunts to the cubby, down the creek, riding horses etc. He helps Keith feed all the animals. He’s also our snake spotter, fox catcher extrodinaire!
When he first arrived at Moolooloo our eldest daughter had a cat called Milko (yes after Sally’s imaginary friend on Home & Away!). Fergus didn’t take to Milko at all, they scrapped quite a bit and Milko being the smaller of the two always came off second best! So we decided to take Fergus to Keith’s parents (which is a Station neighboring ours). Around a week later Keith’s parents headed South and we went over to feed their animals and water their plants etc. A drive which takes approximately an hour. We couldn’t find Fergus anywhere? We thought perhaps he’d gone walk about so we left for home a little disappointed. When we arrived we found Fergus spread out on the veranda looking very tired…he had walked home!
Now this was quite an incredible feat as it is around a 30km walk as the crow flies. It was then that we knew Fergus was here for a reason. Unfortunately after Fergus recouperated from his long walk he and Milko had another disagreement. The only thing left to do was to take Milko to Keith’s parents, where he lives happily to this day!
Do Rann, Foley and Hill really think we are that dumb? Do they honestly think that moving money away from smaller hospitals into ’super hospitals’ will provide us with better service and not force imminent closures down the track? Are they just grasping at straws trying to fund their proposed Royal Adelaide Hospital relocation any way they can? Hasn’t the Country suffered enough lately??? Shall we talk about the failed tram system and the enormous amount of tax payers monies wasted on that??? What’s next Mr. Rann, our country education system?
I would like to be Martin Hamilton-Smith at present…happily watching the Labor Party slowly crumbling to an ugly demise.
Want to be an acitve voice? I implore you all to Join the rally at Parliament House on Wednesday the 18th of June at 1pm. Support your Country Hospitals, Doctors and Nurses.
I have just received ‘Perry’s Fruit and Nut’ Winter 2008 newsletter and I must admit it gets my lacklustre green thumb tingling every time! We have had a few deliveries over the past 5 years from Chris and Diana and I must tell you that their service and advice is spot on. Unfortunately they can’t do too much about our lack of rain and some of our trees sadly have crossed over into greener pastures! Fingers crossed this coming year will bring much rain and our struggling gardens will thrive.
If you have any gardening tips or thoughts we would love to hear from you!
In 2008 Port Augusta School of the Air celebrates 50 years since opening and the 30th birthday of the Itinerant Teacher Service. An Open Day and Dinner Celebration is being held on the 28th of June, 2008 – so if you know of anyone that once used or delivered this service please tell them to come along! It is going to be a fantastic day out full of activities, displays & food! Further information and dinner bookings can be made by phoning SOTA on 08 86422077.
This event is very special to us because our children do their school via School of the Air!
We’ve had lots of questions about the weather lately and what it will be like on a certain day! Try as we may we can only make uninformed guesses! We now suggest that our guests check out this site: Weather Zone. It gives an up to date forecast for Orroroo over a four day period.
Hello! We’ve finally decided to get with the times and create a blog for our Cottage. We hope that you can all bear with us as we are flying completely blind!
