ABC’s ‘Bush Slam’ Poetry Series comes to Blinman, Flinders Ranges!

The whisper has it that Blinman has been chosen as one of 6 Australian ‘Bush Slam’ locations for the new ABC TV/Freehand Productions series hosted by none other than HG!
“Bush Slam will feature Australia’s leading poets and lyricists.” (Media Release: Leena Thomas, 16-2-09 ABC TV Publicity).
- The series will be telecast on ABC 1 later on in the year.

I’d love to hear more about the Blinman Bush Slam – are competitors permitted – I am a performance poet and would love to share my spoken words – what are the conditions?
Any time limits? Music? Cosltume? Are there any prizes?
Any info about last Slam would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Krysha,
apologies for not responding sooner – has been a busy time. As you will know by now the Bush Slam event is over. We weren’t sure what to expect but it involved 2 poets getting to know our community over a period of a couple of days. This culminated in the poets writing a poem about Blinman and performing in front of an audience – us. There were a couple of local poets there but they didn’t get the chance to perform. One poet got into the theme and kind of rapped his poem! Their next episode is being filmed in Lightning Ridge. It was very interesting to see the workings behind the TV Show. Not sure when programme will go to air but toward the end of 2009 we think. Hope this has shed some light. Goodluck with your poetry! If you want to video a performance I would be more than happy to post it on our blog – providing it meets with our ‘G’ rating of course!

I was at lightning ridge for bushslam,it was awesome.malinda schnieder and aguy called mark were the poets,malinda sang hers and won,it was a top night.
